mission: missoni necklace

Missoni crochet-knit necklace

Fact: Missoni is, hands down, a great designer.
The maison's garments are a perfect blend of colors, textures and intricate patterns. All of the above could be a taki taki mixture if you just screw up one or the other.
So, bravo Missoni, indeed.

I was browsing the net-a-porter website and stumble on this necklace. Pretty, uh? Yes, so the 280$ price tag...

--> Lucky me,  this is what I had :
* my little toy, the spool knitter & a tapestry needle
* fabric paint in white and blue & painbrush
* masking tape
* 8 end caps
* a big clasp and 2 splitrings
* a short piece of chain
* the glue gun

--> Work in progress
* knit 4 cords of about 18" each (let's say each one 3/4" longer than the other)
* with the tapestry needle, bind off the 4 stitches of the cords and weave the tail in.
* also weave the other side of the tail in.

* grab your masking tape and stick it around the cords making stripes about 1/4" smaller than the size of your masking tape
* get your blue paint (I decided to go more on navy blue than this kind of indigo-purple-ish color) and start painting the cord by dabbing the paintbrush into the knit
* let it dry... don't be in a hurry, it's not worth to mess it up!

* remove the masking tape
* and start making some other stripes with the masking tape, sticking the tape over the blue lines and giving about 1/8" on each side of extra coverage.
* mix some white and blue until you get to the shade of lighter color of your choice.
* paint the new set of stripes
* LET IT DRY!!!

* remove the masking tape

* plug your glue gun
* glue the tip of your cords and put them into the end caps
*... yes let it dry (and cool off)
* slide the four cords into the splitrings on both sides
* slide in one side the big clasp
* and in the other a piece of chain
